Scammers are phishing local e-mail accounts hoping to land a big one. Major Jack Prindle of the Boone County Sheriff's Department Electronic Crimes unit says they get calls about Internet scams on a regular basis.

CLIFTON — An elderly couple lost their life savings and possibly their home to a lottery scam. Another man was scammed out of several thousand dollars by a man posing as his grandson claiming to need bail money to get out of jail.

CLIFTON — An elderly Putnam Place couple lost their life savings and possibly their home in a foreign lottery scam. The husband and wife, both 82, telephoned police and reported the scam after months and months of back-and-forth with individuals claiming to represent a Spanish lottery.
